Do you suspect someone is polluting our local streams or lakes? Now it is easier for you to report potential water pollution to the Yavapai County Flood Control District (FCD). When you submit a complaint the FCD will review the complaint and determine if there is an issue that needs to be resolved. If necessary, the FCD will work with the appropriate agencies to pursue corrective measures.
What types of pollution SHOULD be reported?
There are a variety of concerns that can be reported. Any discharge that is not composed entirely of stormwater (an illicit discharge) should be reported. You should report dumping of any type into or close to streams or drainages that lead to stream or lakes. The FCD is also concerned with sediment moving off construction sites or grading sites. Sediment itself is considered a pollutant and can often carry other pollutants. Unusual sources of water during dry times should also be reported.
The following categories of non-storm water discharges do not need to be reported:
- Water line flushing
- Landscape irrigation
- Diverted stream flows
- Rising ground waters
- Uncontaminated ground water infiltration
- Uncontaminated pumped ground water
- Discharges from potable water sources
- Foundation and footing drain water
- Air conditioning condensation
- Irrigation water
- Water from crawl space pumps
- Lawn watering
- Individual residential car washing
- Flows from riparian habitats and wetlands
**If you are unsure, send an email or call to discuss the issue. **
